How Do I Use It?
Use port 22 to connect to the server via SSH and log in with your root username and password using the instructions below .

Enable SSH for a cPanel Account using WHM.

  • Log into WHM.

Once logged in, Click Account Functions > Manage Shell Access.

Jailed shell environment for a user connected to a server via SSH. Unlike a normal shell environment, a jailed shell environment prevents access to data outside of the user’s home directory, increasing security for shell account users. You will have no access to any system or server files, only to your own directory.

  • Once you have made your selection, WHM will automatically save the changes.

How Do I Connect to My Server via SSH?

Download putty 

Enter your IP address and enter port number. Dedicated and VPS – Port 22

Dedicated and VPS customers have the option of logging in with the root WHM username and password.

When the software starts, a window titled PuTTY Configuration should open. This window has a configuration pane on the left, a Host Name (or IP address) field.

For simple use, all you need to do is to enter the domain name or IP address of the host you want to connect to in the Host Name field and click Open (or press Enter). A domain name looks like orissawebhosting.com An IP address looks something like 103.11.22.33.

When you connect to a server for the first time, you are likely to see a PuTTY Security Alert dialog box like above.

This is normal at first time and you should just click Yes.you can check the displayed key fingerprint and make sure it is the same that is used by the server.

After the security alert, you should get a terminal black window.  It should first ask for your user name and then password. After these, you should get a command line on the server.
